FAQ
Are down and feathers in this down comforter ethically sourced?
Yes, the down and feathers in this comforter are certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). This voluntary global certification ensures that the materials are sourced from animals that have been treated humanely and not subjected to unnecessary harm.
How do I choose the right size down comforter for my bed?
Start by measuring the width and length of your mattress. Comforters are typically sized to match standard mattress dimensions—twin, full, queen, king, and California king. For the best coverage and a more luxurious drape, consider choosing a comforter that matches or slightly exceeds your mattress size.
Why does my down comforter look flat when I first receive it?
This is completely normal and not a defect. To make shipping easier, down comforters are compressed during transit, which temporarily presses the down together. When you first open the package, the comforter may look flatter than expected because the down hasn’t had time to fully expand yet.
Once unpacked, gently shake and spread out the comforter and allow it to rest for 24–48 hours. As the down is exposed to air, it will naturally regain its loft, softness, and insulating ability. The initial flat appearance does not reflect the comforter’s true warmth or quality.
How do I wash my down comforter?
Before washing, always check the care label on your comforter for specific instructions.
Some down comforters may require professional cleaning, while others can be washed at home if the care label allows. In general:
- Use a large-capacity washer and wash on a gentle cycle with cold or warm water.
- Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach or fabric softeners.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
- Tumble dry on low heat or air-only, adding dryer balls or clean tennis balls to help restore loft and prevent clumping.
- Make sure the comforter is completely dry before use or storage.
Following the care label helps maintain the comforter’s loft, softness, and longevity.
How often should I wash my down comforter?
Down comforters require minimal washing—typically just once or twice a year. Using a comforter cover helps keep it clean and extends the time between washes.
I see dark spots inside my down comforter. Is it defective?
Not at all. The dark spots you may notice through the white fabric are naturally occurring black or gray down and feathers. These are completely normal and safe. We choose not to use chemical decolorizers, opting instead to limit darker feathers to about 1% for a more natural and healthy product.
Why does my down bedding have a scent?
A faint scent is natural and comes from the essential oils in down that help keep it soft and resilient. Even high-quality, clean down may have a mild odor—especially noticeable to those with a sensitive sense of smell. Heat, humidity, or prolonged moisture exposure can make the scent more noticeable.
To reduce or eliminate the smell, air out your down bedding in the sun for a few hours or tumble dry it on low heat until fully dry. Proper drying also helps prevent mildew.
